San Xavier del Bac

San Xavier del Bac - White Dove of the Desert

San Xaveir del Bac was completed in 1797 but, for unknown reasons, the east bell tower was never finished. It is located on the Tohono O’Odam reservation southwest of Tucson and is still active as a church.

The first of several restorations began in 1859 and a modern interior conservation program was completed in 1997. After several years behind extensive scaffolding, the most recent renovation of the west tower was complete and the mission was proudly lighted and exhibited, in its original glory, on January 10, 2009.

Photographers and the public were invited to take photos that evening, and I was among 500+  photographers in attendance for this unique event. This photo was taken with my Fuji 2800Zoom camera. This FinePix is a 2.0 Mega pixal with a 6X optical zoom.

I especially like this photo out of the many that I took that evening. The doorway of the mission silhouettes several of the many photographers who were working to shoot their own masterpieces.

If you have any questions about this photo, please ask. Let me know what photos, from the photography section, that you'd like to see as a future 'featured photo'. I'll do my best to accommodate all requests.
