My sister and niece were visiting from Illinois in early October, 2009. We drove from Tucson to Nogalas, Mexico for a morning of shopping and relaxation. Unlike years ago, very few Americans were on the streets.

We had lunch at a nice cafe with opened windows along the front. Shortly after sitting down we noticed about a half dozen Federales, (some masked) on the sidewalk and street in front of us, then this truck pulled up and parked literally outside the open window by our table. It was a bit disconcerting to say the least!

We asked our waiter what was going on and his reply was... "It's Friday, they are making a deposit at the bank." We supposed that this was their form of armored car.

I waited until the Federale behind the mounted machine gun was looking away before I took the photo ... but if you zoom in you can see the driver shaking his finger at me. I didn't see him signaling that I couldn't take a photo, until I set the camera down after the shot. Then he took his machine gun from the seat next to him and put it on his lap with the tip of the barrel resting on the door frame. Needless to say, this was the only photo that I took.
